NCCAM Establishment

The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) was established according to the Council of Ministers Resolution No. (236), dated 10-08-1429 AH. for the center to be part of the Ministry of Health; It serves as a national regulatory entity in all matters related to Complementary and Alternative Medicine activities.

The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) may also seek the assistance of an advisory committee of officials and specialists in Alternative and Complementary Medicine that includes representatives from: (The National Guard, The Ministry of Defence and Aviation, The General Administration for Medical Services of the Armed Forces, The Ministry of Interior, The General Administration of Medical Services, The Ministry of Health, King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre, The Saudi Food & drug Authority (SFDA), Saudi Commission for Health Specialties, The Ministry of Higher Education, as well as the private sector). The Resolution also stipulated the possibility of seeking assistance from experts in the field of Complementary and Alternative Medicine from outside the Kingdom.

The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) establishment came in order to regulate and monitor everything related to the practices and applications of Complementary and Alternative Medicine in the KSA and to increase social awareness regarding the practice. Therefore, the Council of Ministers Resolution was then amended by Resolution No. (467) dated 7-11-1430 AH. which confirmed that the center shall operate as per the establishment Resolution.
